Artist Statement

For the past eight years my work has focused on ideas about family and education, and the ways we construct our spaces and our identities in order to interact with each other and our environment.

I am interested in our attempts to reach idealized goals of success. My subjects project order, cleanliness, and productivity, yet they are often found isolated within their personal spaces and their favorite activities. In our love for nature we would rather bring it inside in the form of life-size posters and panels than actually experience it. There is an irony in the way that we simultaneously damage our environment, both physically and visually, but at the same time try to protect ourselves from it. The result is a world where people and places become anonymous, environments are sterilized, and nature is tamed to keep us clean and safe.
